The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is one of the short-duration and the easiest trek in the Annapurna Region. Situated at 3,210 meters, the Poon Hill Trek can be done within 6-10 days. This trek starts and ends at the Pokhara, which is easily accessible and closer to Kathmandu.
During the trek, you will pass through the beautiful rhododendron forest, oak forest, lush hill, village, diverse landscape, flowing rivers, and suspension bridge. The major highlight of this trek is watching the sun’s rays over the snow-capped mountains of the Annapurna Range.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport and transfer to the hotel.
After you successfully land at the Kathmandu International Airport, we will be ready to greet you when you arrive at the airport gate. Then you will be taken to the hotel of your choice. If you like to relax and enjoy yourself, you can spend your time in Thamel, which has many restaurants, bars, nightclubs, shops, and so on for your enjoyment and relaxation.
Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara – 8 hrs
It is approximately 220km to reach Pokhara, which takes about 8 hours drive. The road condition is normal, where you will pass through the Trisuli River. On the way, you can see the scenic villages, hills, and mountains, which are simply breathtaking.
Note: You can take the local bus or tourist bus from the Gangabu bus park. If you would like to hire a private vehicle, then you can confirm before booking.
Day 3: Trek from Pokhara to Naya Pool (Drive) to Tikhe Dhunga(1,570 m / 5,150 ft) – 6 hrs
After having an early breakfast, you will take a short drive to reach Naya Pool. You can choose either a public bus or hire a private vehicle as per your needs.
After you reach Nayapool, your first trekking will start. Today, we will hike to reach Tikhe Dhunga, which can be done within 6 hours of the hike. After passing the checkpoint at Birethanti, we will continue to climb, and then finally, we will reach Tikhe Dhunga to stay overnight.
Day 4: Trek from Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani(2,850 m / 9,350 ft) – 6 hrs
Today, we will take a step climb to Ulleri village. Amazing views of Annapurna South and Hiuchuli can be seen on the way. Further walking, we will pass through the rhododendron and oak forest. Passing through this beautiful trail, we will finally reach Ghorepani and spend the night there.
Day 5: Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (2,700 m / 8,858 ft), Morning hike to Poon Hill – 7 hrs
Today will be the exciting day of our journey. After waking early in the morning, we will begin to reach the highest point of Poonhill (3210 m). It will take an average of 1-2 hours to reach Poohhill. Once you reach Poonhill, you can see the panoramic view of golden rays striking the Himalayan mountains of the Annapurna region.
Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Tukuche Peak (6920 m), Nilgiri (6940 m), Varaha Shikhar (7847 m), Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Annapurna III (7855 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), Mt. Machhapuchhare (6993 m), Lamjung Himal etc are the mountains that can be seen from the Poonhill.
After enjoying the scenic view and taking a picture, we will return to Ghorepani. Then, having breakfast, we will head forward to Tadapani (2650 m). We will walk 5-6 hours on the beautiful trail and return from the Tadapani to stay overnight.
Day 6: Trek fromTadapani to Ghandruk (1,940 m / 6,364 ft) – 3 hrs
Today, after having an early breakfast, we will start to descend toward Ghandruk. The path is similar to the previous one. Passing through the forest and appreciating the natural beauty, we will reach Ghandruk within 3 hours.
You will have enough time to explore the village at Ghandruk. There is also a handicraft centre and Gurung museum in Ghundruk. The majority of the people living in this area are Gurung, where you can enjoy their traditions and culture.
Day 7: Trek from Ghandruk to Naya Pool and drive to Pokhara
After reaching the Naya pool, it will be the last day of the trekking journey. Today’s hike is easy and short, where you will pass from Syauli Bazaar to reach Naya Pool. Then, after catching the taxi, we will drive to Pokhara. We will spend your night at the Pokhara Hotel.
Day 8: Pokhara to Kathmandu – 8 hrs
After spending the beautiful night at Pokhara, we will drive to reach Kathmandu.
You will reach Kathmandu after a long hour of drive, and you will be transferred to the hotel.
Day 9: Departure

Mild Time(Moonson seasons:Jun, July, and August)
During the month of monsoon season, it is a mild time for the Ghorepani Phoonhill trek. Rainfall is expected during this month. This trek is perfect for those people who love to enjoy rainfall while enjoying tea/coffee. Also, you can expect a lower number of visitors during this time. The weather is very unpredictable. Sometimes, regular rainfall can ruin your trek, and there is a high chance of floods, landslides, and avalanches. Therefore, it is extremely important to take precautions before you start your trek during monsoon seasons.
Harsh Time (winter seasons: December and January)
It is extremely cold during the months of December and January. It is the reason why it is considered the harsh Time for the Ghorepani Phoonhill trek. Even though there is no rainfall, you can expect heavy snowfall during this time. The trail path may be covered with snow, and it might be slippery. Proper clothing and gear are required for a successful summit. Although it is difficult to trek, it is the best time for the photographer.
Difficulty
Ghorepani Phoonhill trek is a short trek that is close to Pokhara as well as from Kathmandu which is approximately 272 km to Poon Hill. Technical climbing skills and pre-mountainering skills are not required for this trek. However, the term difficulty varies depending on various factors like personal strength, stamina, weather, altitude, and trail conditions.
During the trek, you will pass many uphills and downhills. Also, crossing the famous 3200 stairs while trekking from Tikhedhunga is a strenuous job. Daily, you will hike an average of 4-6 hours, which requires good stamina.
Trekkers need to prepare for the unpredictable weather change. Depending upon the weather conditions, you must pack your clothing correctly. Even though there is an extremely low chance of altitude sickness, some people find difficulty after reaching an altitude above 3000m. Therefore, proper steps should be followed, like gradual ascent, hydration, rest day, acclimatization walks, and medication.
